Reactions of retirees to the increase in health contributions and appetite for “alternative” and non-responsible offers

AUTHOR

Emmanuel GORNY

Studies project manager

  • Question retirees about their perception of the increase in their health contributions: level of knowledge, understanding & budgetary sustainability.

  • Note the anticipated attitude of retirees towards their health insurer in the face of the increase in contributions (negotiation, competitive bidding, etc.) and assess the potential impact on volatility in 2024.

  • Evaluate their predisposition to lower their level of coverage in exchange for a price reduction and identify the positions concerned.

  • Measure their appetite for alternative contracts and non-responsible contracts: hospitalization contract, hospitalization contract + routine care, contract with a single annual package, municipal mutual insurance, etc.

Objectives of the study

I. PERCEPTION BY RETIREES OF THE INCREASE IN THEIR HEALTH CONTRIBUTIONS

1. Level of knowledge of the increase applied to their contribution

2. Understanding the increase experienced in 2024

3. Budgetary sustainability of the contribution

4. Willingness or not to contact the insurer and objectives of the approach

5. Perception of the quality-price ratio of their contract

II. IMPACT OF THE INCREASE IN CONTRIBUTIONS ON THE VOLATILITY OF HEALTH RETIREES

1. Perception of the health insurer relative to other operators

2. Share of retirees having changed or considering changing health insurer in 2024

3. Channels used to request insurance quotes

4. Monthly gain from which policyholders consider it worthwhile to change establishment

III. PREDISPOSITION OF RETIREES TO REVIEW THEIR LEVEL OF COVERAGE DOWNWARDS 1. Proportion of retirees believing that they have coverage that is not adapted to their needs

2. A priori predispositions to lower the level of coverage and positions concerned

3. Reactions to proposals to eliminate certain services in exchange for a price reduction: fee overruns, home assistance, private room, medicines with moderate and low SMR, alternative medicines and spa treatments

IV. APPEAL FOR NON-RESPONSIBLE & “ALTERNATIVE” HEALTH INSURANCE

1. Interest in non-responsible offers: hospitalization insurance, hospitalization insurance + routine care, single annual package insurance

2. Openness to responsible “alternative” offers: insurance limiting dental/optical and audio care to 100% health services, insurance adaptable over time, municipal/regional insurance
